Movement meets media at Anaheim Ballet's interactive performance iDance for young people at Cerritos Center for the Arts on April 15, 2010

Anaheim Ballet has reached an unprecedented 20 million viewers through its internet series: Anaheim Ballet: More Than Dance... Given this information, Helene Trudeau, the Director of Education for the Friends of Arts Education at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts thought, "What better way to introduce young people to the art of dance than to incorporate this media success into an integrated live performance at the Cerritos Center?". Ms. Trudeau contacted Anaheim Ballet's Media Director, Evan Rosenberg, and began the process of creating this fresh and lively interaction of dancers, media, and students. AB's internet series has been featured and discussed in Dance Spirit Magazine, OC Register, LA Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Performing live will be dancers from Anaheim Ballet with varied backgrounds in several dance forms including classical ballet, tap, hip hop, and contemporary movement. Audience members will be exposed to solo variations, group pieces, pas de deux [partnering], and have the chance for an open Q&A. "We're comfortable with kids asking the un-askable such as, 'why do you guys wear tights?' or 'do your toes hurt?'. Answering those questions breaks the barriers that some kids feel are uncomfortable when coming to a dance performance", stated Evan Rosenberg. "Once you explain that tights keep your muscles warm, kids feel that there's a reason for the costuming and they are ok with it." Anaheim Ballet has a great deal of experience of educating young people in the arts as a member of the Orange County Performing Arts Center's ArtsTeach program. Bringing classical ballet to public school children has been a legacy of Anaheim Ballet for the last twenty years. "It's only a natural progression to incorporate the current medium of video and the internet. There's pretty much nothing that we haven't encountered in terms of resistance or skepticism at the onset of our bookings, but then we pretty much walk away with real ballet converts!", mused Rosenberg.
